Trying to stay healthy during the holidays but short on time? You’re not alone. Between parties, shopping, travel, and all the irresistible seasonal treats, getting to the gym can feel nearly impossible. The good news is you don’t need long workouts to stay on track. Just a few minutes with the right movements can keep your strength, energy, and momentum going all season long.
My first go-to exercise is the burpee. It’s the ultimate full-body bang-for-your-buck movement because it hits strength and cardio at the same time. Plus, it teaches one of the most important real-life skills—being able to get up off the floor easily—which matters more as we age. The best part? Anyone can do their own version of a burpee, from toddlers bouncing around to grandparents taking it slow.
Next up: air squats and lunges. I always recommend doing both because they work your glutes, quads, and hamstrings—the powerhouse muscles that make everyday tasks easier, from carrying grocery bags to hustling through airports. And yes, I absolutely live by the rule: never skip leg day. Strong legs are the foundation for a strong body.
My third pick is pull-ups. They’re the perfect balance to all the pushing work in burpees and help build real upper-body strength. Pull-ups target your back, biceps, shoulders, and core, and even if you use a band or assistance, the movement is incredibly effective. Doing them consistently will make you feel noticeably stronger in everything you do.
Bottom line: you don’t need a full gym schedule to stay fit through the holiday chaos. Sprinkle these three exercises into your week and you’ll keep your strength, stamina, and sanity intact.
